Chaplaincy Services at Brisbane Bayside State College
Chaplaincy Services provide spiritual, ethical, and personal support to school communities. SU Queensland Chaplains offer positive adult role models for students and are present in schools by invitation of the Principal, in consultation with the local community, and with the support of the P&C Association.
What Does a School Chaplain Do?
A School Chaplain is a safe and trusted person for young people to connect with at school. They provide a listening ear, a caring presence, and a message of hope. Chaplains organise positive and fun activities for students and help foster supportive, caring school environments.
Working alongside other members of the school’s support team, the Chaplain supports students dealing with challenges such as difficult relationships, low self-esteem, family breakdown, and depression.
The partnership between the school and the Chaplaincy Service, supported by local churches, businesses, and community organisations, creates a network of local support. These positive relationships help young people face difficulties with hope, connection, meaning, and purpose.
The Chaplaincy Service is available to everyone in the school community, regardless of religious beliefs.
Meet Our School Chaplain
My name is Randall Gill, and I am the Chaplain at Brisbane Bayside State College. I have been married to my wonderful wife Jane for 12 years, and together we have three beautiful daughters. I have served as Chaplain at the College since it opened in 2010. Prior to this, I was the Chaplain at Wynnum North State High School for five years.
I’m a passionate supporter of the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs, the Sydney Swans, and NSW in the State of Origin. In my free time, I enjoy playing sports and spending quality time with my family.
Chaplaincy at Brisbane Bayside State College
Each year, I assist with a range of College sporting and cultural programs, attend Year 8 and Year 11 camps, support classrooms, run a free breakfast each week, and facilitate a lunchtime Christian group in partnership with local youth organisations.
Students may choose to see me individually for personal support or be referred by parents, teachers, or administrative staff.
Student Involvement
Participation in Chaplaincy activities is completely voluntary. Students decide whether to take part in any activities offered. Parents will be consulted if their child wishes to engage in ongoing one-on-one meetings with the Chaplain or any program involving spiritual or ethical content. Parents may also choose to withhold permission for their child to participate in any Chaplaincy event.
