Mathematics teaching and learning in Junior Secondary is underpinned by building students creativity through mathematical mindsets. Students learn to understand, become fluent, reason and problem solve through a combination of inquiry-based (launch-explore-discuss-reflect) and explicit teaching.

Subjects Offered
Mathematics provides students with essential mathematical skills and knowledge in Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. It develops the numeracy capabilities that all students need in their personal, work and civic life, and provides the fundamentals on which mathematical specialties and professional applications of mathematics are built.
All students study the Australian mathematics curriculum from Years 7 to 9. At Year 10, students can choose to study either the core or advanced mathematics curriculum in semester 1.
As students choose their Senior study pathway during SET-plans https://brisbanebaysidesc.eq.edu.au/curriculum/senior-secondary), they are then allocated to preparatory mathematics courses in semester 2.

Mathematical Mindset Munch Club
The Breakfast Club has been running since 2019. Students gather each week to cooperatively solve fun maths problems. It is a great opportunity for students to open their mind to learning maths is different ways and to build persistence and resilience. Everyone is welcome.
