At Brisbane Bayside State College we pride ourselves on our teaching and learning practices.
The school motto – Dare to be Wise – is also a challenge we issue to our dedicated teaching staff of Brisbane Bayside State College. We realise the importance of being a learner and realise we are all learners. For us to improve on our craft we must always be learning.
The teaching and learning framework adopted at Brisbane Bayside State College is based on the Art and Science of Teaching (ASOT), a pedagogical framework based on the research of Robert Marzano.
The words art and science of teaching are the key words to our craft. There is a science and theory behind teaching and how this theory is delivered in the classroom is the art.
At Brisbane Bayside State College we started our professional development journey with ASOT in 2012. All teaching staff commit to monthly professional learning sessions. These sessions are a time for teachers to share skills, learn new skills and reflect on their own professional practices.
ASOT’s framework is presented under the guide of 10 design questions. Each semester we focus on a design question to develop and continue to learn the art and science of teaching.
Teachers at Brisbane Bayside State College strive to achieve the mix of the art and science of teaching that results in exceptional teaching and outstanding student outcomes through our College.
