Bring your own device program

Brisbane Bayside State College acknowledges that in the 21st century, student learners should have access to 24/7 learning in a variety of mediums. Technology and devices can facilitate 'just in time' learning as well as provide for much broader, in depth engagement with the digital world in which we live.

Students enrolled in year 7 especially are encouraged to participate in the bring your own device (BYOx) program that the college launched in 2015 however the program can be utilised by students of any grade. This is, among other reasons, in response to the growing worldwide trend of corporate organisations and educational institutions to encourage the use of personally owned devices to increase productivity and engagement by allowing them to be connected to IT infrastructure.

In previous years, the federal government has provided substantial funding through the Digital Education Revolution (DER). One of the aims of this project was to increase the availability of devices in schools by providing over 110,000 devices in Queensland alone. Now that the DER has run it's course, with the last devices issued at the end of 2013, it is now the responsibility of individual schools to expand on the benefits of immersive use of technology in the educational setting.
