BEAP - Bayside Enrichment Academic Program

Philosophy

 

Brisbane Bayside State College offers academic enrichment programs for students who excel in English and Mathematics from years 7-10, motivating junior school students to be challenged and encouraged by both their peers and teachers to 'Ignite their Spark' and maximise their potential with a range of learning experiences that are designed to develop, accelerate and extend knowledge acquisition in these areas. 

Student Outcomes
 

The Bayside Enrichment Academic Program is designed to develop within students the skills and abilities to become life-long learners, with the capacity to become an active global citizen who is: 

 
  • A knowledgeable person with deep understanding

  • A person who uses creativity, logic and or reason to solve problems 

  • Someone who possesses an inquisitive mind

  • A reflective and self-directed learner

This is evident through the Year 9 English rich task 'Green Themes' Novel, a collection of short stories.

 
STEM – Science, Technology,​ Engineering and Maths 
 
STEM is everywhere​. Our nourishment, our safety, our homes and neighbourhoods, our health, our jobs, our leisure are all profoundly shaped by technological innovation and the discoveries of science.
 

The STEM program at BBSC is about developing student's creativity and thinking in the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Students will be involved in problem-based learning aimed at developing their skills in the areas of generating ideas, gathering and processing new knowledge, identifying issues, finding solutions and reflecting.

Our aim is to encourage students to pursue a STEM pathway in senior and to become part of the Australian STEM enterprise.

STEP – Sports Training Extension Pathway

 

This program is designed to extend students in Years 7 and 8 within a sporting context. It is about providing specialist training and education to students with sporting ability to maximise their potential in their potential in their chosen sports. The focus is not just on physically improving their capabilities but also on teaching self belief and providing the skills to become mentally resilient.

Students will commence their studies with a focus on general fitness principles and be taught how to set and achieve goals with the support of an expert teaching staff. Studies will reflect the needs of adolescent athletes with access to specialist coaches and professionals to extend their knowledge.

B.E.A.T- Bayside Excellence in the Arts Talent Program

The B.E.A.T. Program offers extension activities for those students passionate about the Arts.  Students in Year 7 can elect to audition for our new Dance Excellence Program being offered in 2017 to Year 7 students as well as our Junior Dance Squad. For Instrumental Music students, the department offers several bands/orchestras and all students enrolling at Bayside complete an Arts rotation during Year 7 and 8.  Other activities includes musicals and Arts extravaganzas which occur every year as well as Artists-in-Residence program​s on offer in a range of areas.  There are many other Arts opportunities available for our talented Arts students.
